Pinterest is the one platform where a taller image is not automatically better. 2:3 — 1000 × 1500 — is the tallest ratio it recommends, and pins beyond that are cropped in the feed rather than shown in full. That catches people out when they reuse a 9:16 story collage as a pin, because it is precisely the top and bottom, where the title usually goes, that disappears.
Pins are also viewed small. In a phone feed a pin is about 170 points wide, so text at 24 pixels in a 1000-pixel-wide design is unreadable and a nine-photo collage is nine thumbnails. Type at 48 pixels or larger survives that reduction, and four to six photos is a more realistic count than nine if the pin is meant to be understood at a glance rather than opened.
For the arrangement, a 2:3 canvas sits between a square and a story, which makes it one of the easier shapes to fill: two columns of three, or one lead photo above a row of three, both work without forcing much cropping. The layouts on this page are solved for that ratio specifically, so the cells come out close to the proportions of ordinary phone photographs.
If the pin includes a title, put it in the top third. Pinterest overlays its own interface on the lower portion in some views, and the top is where attention lands first in a masonry feed. The editorial style on this page leaves a generous margin for exactly that, and the text presets sit over the photos without cropping them.
One more thing specific to Pinterest: the same collage often works better repeated at two ratios rather than once. A 2:3 pin catches the feed and a square version suits a board cover, and since changing the canvas re-solves the arrangement rather than cropping it, making both costs one extra export.
